Pulled Quad? (0) Hey everyone first time on this forum. Anyways last monday i pulled a quad muscle wen i tackled someone and i was wondering how i should […]
Sounds like you haven’t seen an orthopedist. You should, ASAP. I didn’t realize it at the time, but I partially tore my right quadricep tendon in mid-January, 2014. Had a big divot in the quad, which I now know is a classic sign. It seemed to slowly got better and stronger, so I stupidly didn’t see a doctor. Still painful, still the divot, but 80% as strong as before. On March 28, I was hiking on the Appalachian Trail when I stumbled on some rocks and ripped the tendon completely off the kneecap. Surgery on 4/7/04, then locked, knee totally extended, in a Bledsoe Brace for six weeks. I’m now walking w/o crutches, and I have between 45 and 60 degrees of flexion back in the knee. Flexion ROM is coming back extremely slowly. My quad is atrophied to about 2/3 its former size. It’ll be at least 8 months before I’m close to pre-injury status. My orthopedist told me it was a good thing I tore it a second time, completely, because the original partial tear, if left untreated, would have healed poorly, reslting in permanent loss of muscle mass and strength. The point is, almost always requires quick surgical repair.
