Torn Rotator Cuff

(2 discussions)

I tore my right rotator cuff in a skiing fall on May 12th.
How long should I wear a sling? When is it BEST to start exercises? I know it needs rest to heal but also am concerned about “use it or lose it”. Can’t get in to Orthopedic until June 6 and a PT after that so wanting to know what is best to do in the mean time for the best possible recovery.
Thank you.

When I saw the Orthopedic doctor on April 17th then he rushed me to surgery on May 3rd for wrist hand, torn rotor cuff and two bone spurs, without discuss with my husband and me about surgery before. The doctor surgery on me then after I saw him again on May 16th then will not send me to PT or anything and said have to wait 4 more weeks. I have not had any PT after surgery May 3rd! I have tried to exercise by myself and painful so badly and also I have had back hurt from job and won’t move body itself like crack then I have to go to Chirpoter to crack back, neck and shoulder/hand. Yes I am angry at my doctor that I asked my husband, did he tell us before surgery? He said no, he did not tell us nothing. I feel that I am trap and fighting with my shoulder back to normal! How can I response???

I had a complete tear in the left shoulder and had to wear a sling for 6 weeks. Started therapy 3 days later. Didn’t know it was going to be so painful. Have been off work since March 29th and may get to go back next week if Dr thinks I’m ready. Therapist thinks maybe not. Whats bad is I may have a tear in the right shoulder as well from about 5 yrs ago. It’s really been hurting more since I had the left one fixed. Hope I can wait until I can lift my Left arm higher and it’s not so sore and stiff.
