tri malleolar fracture

I have a tri malleolar fracture of my left ankle (in june).
Had screws in my medial malleoli, posterior tibia left alone, and a plate on my fibula.
The plate has screws at the proximal and distal plate.
The screws for the mid plate were left out because of a comminuted, spiral fracture.
There is a large part of the fibula sitting anterior to posterior.
Orthopedic surgeon says it will be fine, that I will always have the plate even if it doesn’t heal.
I went to a foot and ankle surgeon who says in need an “interfixator” screw to bring the fracture together and then put the plate on top.
What should I do?
Are there any reprecussions for leaving a non union fracture of the fibula alone?
I have alot of pain but not particularly in the area of the fibula.
It’s mostly in the anterior (dorsal) area of the ankle joint.

I am sorry, but your question is best answered by a doctor or doctors who have had the opportunity to examine you and see X-rays. Good luck.
