I have just read all your emails, I too have a rotated pelvis, finally I have an answer to my 15 years of pain!!, I also have one leg shorter than the other! I would just like to say that exercises do help especially to strengthen the tummy and buttock muscles, these will ensure your pelvis stays in place! just try to be as active as possible, I know this isn’t easy when you’re in agony.

In September I fell on l hip and got back into truncated sciatica. While at Dr. we spoke of my twisted pelvis of 25 yrs and my pain situation. I have read everyone emails and learn others have this problem. I was able to stand and do hair for 32 because I don,t give up easily. Over the last 27 yrs of much pain . I have found as a woman that support hose and undergarments help the most. Hot soakinf baths before bed also help . There is at Wa-Mart a mans underbrief almost to knees that is of greatest help. Sleeping in them gets the pain under control.During many pain crisis I have had to find my own relief. I can still have a great life most of the time. Riding in cars for trips is another thing to prepare for. Get a special pillow for lumbar spine for long reips of half an hour or more. I think this can help most of you and its great to know you can help yourself. Good luck and stay of good cheer. IBLPJ

I was recently told that I have the same thing. A rotated pelvis. I have been having problems with my back since Jan/Feb, and they thought it was from my backpack in college. So when I got out for summer he gave me a month or two because he figured my spine was bruised. The took xrays, thought it was minute scoliosis, but then got more done at the chiropractor and found out that my pelvis is rotated. He’s trying to ‘adjust’ me some to fix it (he’s only done that once). Since that one time, it’s starting to hurt farther down in my back. It takes forever to get comfortable to fall asleep at night and hurts when I drive. Do you have any idea how you messed up your pelvis? I really can’t offer any advice, because I really don’t know what’s going on with me right now. I’m going to an orthopedic in a couple weeks for my knee (had surgery, didn’t fix it), so he’s looking at my back. So hopefully, before long, I’ll find something that works.

I was in a car accident almost a year ago and the last work comp Dr. diagnosed me with a contusion on my lower back and hip but I had been also been diagnosed with SI joint instability and/or a rotated pelvis by 2 other work comp dr’s. After a year I still have pain in my lower back, hips and pelvis. My symptoms are swollen buttocks around the SI Joint, constant sharp pain in the sacrium area, hips pop/crack when legs are barely spread apart, some numbing throughout entire buttock going around to the front in the pubic area. I also get sharp pains in the illium (sensored-cheek bone). Sitting, standing, lifting, laying down and excessive walking can flare these at any given time. Anyone have any suggestions since the work comp dr’s, PT and medications did not help me.

I was also in a car accident in July. I just found out I have a twisted pelvis and I was just wondering if you have had any relief. I have gone through epidural injections, PT, medications, doctor after doctor. Any info would be great. Thanks Dale

I have just been diagnosed with a twisted pelvis and am in physical therapy. I was in pain for years and they said it was everything from my ovary to my appendix. I had both removed. I still was in pain. Finally they discovered my pelvis was twisted. I have exercises I do that are helping somewhat. I just started though so I don’t know if I’ll be cured. I too have discomfort driving and sitting too long. I am going to get a pillow for my car, hopefully that will help.

About 2 months ago, I was sliding a piece of plywood out of a door, and within a few hours, my lower back hurt extremely bad on the left side. I have never had back problems, so I was sure it would go away. it felt like it was out and some of the worst pain I have ever felt. 3 days later I went to a chiropractor, he aligned me and said all would be better in a few days, it wasn’t. not only was I in terrible pain, I could stand in a mirror and see one side of my hip or pelvis was higher. it looked gross and worst of all it hurt so bad!! I went to the chiropractor once a week for about a month and a half, every time he would assure me in a few days it would be better, it never was. I finally a few days ago, went to a physical therapist, after examining me he said I had tilted or twisted one side of my pelvis, due to the awkward way of moving the plywood!! he gave me some stretches to do and it did pop, in the front of the pelvis, where the cartlidge is located. I am to do this everyday for a week and then come back in. I was excited, thought I was fixed. That night I was in terrible pain, so I figured it must have worked!! still, however, looking in the mirror, it looked terribly uneven. I do the exercises everyday, and it pops in the front of my pelvis everytime, but still looks uneven and hurts, although not quite as bad!!! can you help?? any suggestions??

This reply is intended for all people suffering from a twisted pelvis or related problems. I have suffered from a twisted pelvis for 4 years. It is absolutely debilataing and even prevents me from sleeping. None of the treatment offered by medical practitioners helped much. However I have recently discovered an aid that has helped immensely: A pair of shoes! They are a new innovation based on technology the makers are calling “barefoot technology” (MBT). I vouch that they are not simply comfy shoes but an actual medical aid. If your problems are related to poor posture or poor gait (walking) movement I highly recomend them. For more information, type MBT into google. They are expensive (130) but have made a dramatic difference to all aspects of my life; I even get some sleep now! I hope this information can be of benifit to some of you. ps, I am not an MBT salesman.

Hi all, I have suffered with a twisted pelvis for the last 6 years but have only just been diagnosed recently after x-rays from a chiropracter. I do know that when I was at the gym and fit I didn’t have a problem but as soon as I stop and start gaining a few extra pounds my symptoms flair up. My advice is find someone like a chiropracter to help you through the bad times and take things easy with exercise until it gets easier.i’m sure it will. Good luck! Its good to know i’m not the only one suffering.

I was diagnosed with a tilted, rotated pelvis about 13 years ago. I went to eight different doctors (including a chiropractor, which, by the way, was the one who diagnosed the problem in the end, an orthopedic doctor, a neurologist, a physical therapist, a physiatrist, etc.) Adjustments only helped temporarily, due to the fact that I (and maybe you too) have what’s called hypermobility and can not stabilize. I have had cortisone injections, adjustments, a back brace, a lift in one shoe, traction, weeks of anti-inflammatories, acupuncture, and have taken trazadone (a muscle relaxer). What helped the most was the acupuncture and the trazadone (the latter of which I took for 4 years prior to my first pregnancy). Also, I strongly agree that strengthening the stomach muscles helps strenghten the back. After I did this, my back pain was almost non-existent, and now I only suffer with it from time to time (times of stress, long periods of sitting, etc.) I really hope this may help some of you to get out of pain!!!

After 6 months of nagging aches which have gradually got worse over time, I have just learnt that my left hip is higher than my right and is twisted. I only found out this because I paid for private physio after being told by my local NHS doctor that it was just muscle swelling. Unfortunately, getting our NHS physio is difficult (10 month wait)!
After 2 sessions, everything had been re-aligned, although I was still in pain. A weekend of walking has unfortunately pushed the pelvis back out of alignment and I have been advised to avoid sports for at least 2 weeks.
As a 39 male trying to get back to a 25 year old shape, giving up my sports is not good news. I fear I am not winning my battle with middle aged spread. I can either be an active person in pain or a couch potato. Mind you, the cost of the physio means I cannot afford to get out much anyway. If anyone has suggestions for cheap sports that do not require much pelvic movement, please let me know. I have tried FIFA Football on the Play Station, but apparently, that is not good for posture either (and can cause lower back and pelvis problems).

Hi there, I am a 22 year old peronal trainer suffering from ostietis pubis which I s acondition caused by an anteriot (forward) twist of the left side of my pelvis. The pain is a dull ache in the bottom of my pelvis, exacerbated wen I walk, run, bens twist etc. In order to correct this problem you must see a physio, the rotation of the pelvis can be fixed with certain strengthening exercises. Does anyone else suffer from a similar problem
    Thanks

I have pain in the upper thigh aggravated by running (which I love) and sitting and orthopedic people and physical therapists have not been able to help. I am currently seeing a chiropractor who said my pelvis is rotated and tilted as shown by an x-ray. He told me he can put it back where it belongs and relieve my pain by doing a series of “adjustments”. I have had 4 and no relief yet. Any thoughts? Thank you.

I too have this problem and am curently in agony! My chiropractor is great and has noted all the times it has happened over the last two years – every time my work load increases I forfeit the gym – then my pelvis must weaken and twist, so it seems exercise really is the best prevention. Impossible til the pain subsides but it is what keeps mine in place! When sleeping on your side try putting a pillow between your knees – it keeps the pelvis straight and stops strain on it. When the pain is really bad lie on your back and pull both knees to your chest gently – a good stretch to relieve a tiny bit of the pain! Good luck!

My boyfriend was diagnosed with a rotated pelvis about one year ago. The ONLY treatment that could completely alleviate his pain was trigger point therapy. It was developed by Dr. Janet Travell, the former personal physician to President Kennedy and Johnson. Hope this info helps.

I had total hip surgery done 7 months ago to the right hip and now the surgeon says My pelvis is tilted and it wasn’t before. So he gave me two options, get a shoe lift on the left foot which is what he wanted to do before surgery to the right, or have surgery to shorten it. I am 40 years old and he told me I would be fine I was young and be back to work in 8 weeks, I went back after 4 months. I am in worse shape now after the surgery. This has slowed me down. Can a tilted pelvis be fixed?

I was diagnosed with a twisted pelvis just about two or three days ago. My chiropractor told me after a preliminary exam that it seems my right hip has tilted forward and to the outside, causing a nerve to be pinned between my spine and hip bone, which explains the spasms in my right leg. He told me, after I get x-rays to figure out the actual cause, I would need to go in once a week for about two or three weeks to get routine adjustments to straighten things out. Right now, it is becoming gradually worse to the point where even sitting down for more than 30 minutes causes so much pain that I am nearly in tears. And I’m only 15. There are back and joint problems in my family, so I’ve always had a bad back. I used to pop and crack my knees, back, and hips alot to relieve the tension. Could that have, if not caused, worsened my hip problem? I recently had another, unrelated surgery (tonsilectomy) where they gave me liquid Codeine (because I couldn’t swallow pills). Could I take Codeine for my hip and back pain until it’s fixed enough to where it doesnt hurt as much, or would there be another, more suitable pain medication for that kind of pain? And I was also wondering, with a pinched nerve as well as a tilted pelvis, would physical activities, like running, twisting, etc., cause the condition to get worse?

Could sleep habits affect a tilted pelvis too? I just read on a medical website that certain sleep positions could throw off your spine. I usually sleep on my stomach facing to the left with my left leg bent and out, which probably puts more stress on my bad hip than I should. Could sleeping on your stomach like that twist, or atleast aggrivate a rotated pelvis?

my niece was hit by pickup truck crossing a pedestrian walk(MVA) last week- initially diagnosed with broken pelvis in 4 places —now 1 wk later -is told she has “rotated pelvis along with the breaks”- and that no surgery is scheduled? Is this appropriate treatment —for such a case – and does the pelvis heal on its own?

I have that too. My left side of the pelvis is rotated back and I also have rotation in my lumbar and thoracic. I have a loss of curvature of my cervical, it’s flat. I have gotten arthritis on my spine and I’m only 22. I’ve been in pain for over a year now. I’ve seen chiropracters (7 months), PT, and several doctors and no one could help me. I’m getting worse and worse as the time goes by. I’m having pain on my left pelvis, SI joint, middle back, right shoulder, and both knees. I feel like my whole spine is rotating. It hurts sooo much. I was in the nursing program, but I had to drop because it was too much for my body to handle. I am so miserable, depressed, and desperate for help. I’m in soooo much pain. It hurts for me to sit for long time, stand, or walk. Someone please help me! I have an appointment with a rheumatologist next week, do you think the doctor can help? Someone please respond. Any help will be appreciated.

    Angi,
It sounds like you could be suffering from a deteriorated disc in your lower back, and/or weakened pelvic muscles. I too have a deteriorated disc in my lower back (birth defect from short leg syndrome) and I found that liquid glucosamine from Synflex (website online) has helped me tremendously. It couldn’t hurt to get X-rayed by a chiropractor and make sure you don’t suffer from a shorter leg than the other. As for the weakened pelvic muscles, there are various back exercises that a chiropractor can offer you, some work, some don’t, just takes time to figure out which ones help. Best of luck.
