undiagnosed foot pain

(2 discussions)

About 6 months ago pain developed in the ball of my foot, concentrated on the second and fourth metatarsal. I’ve had several x’-rays, an mri, a caste on for 8 weeks at one point. No sign of stress fractures, only significant inflamation.
The latest x-ray showed that the heads of the bones had significant thinning (which could be due to lack of use). It is not getting any better despite RICE.
Prior to the onset I was a very active person (cycling, hiking, weight training). Now I can bearly walk.
I take 600-800 mgs Ibuprofen 3x daily.
I am 35 years old, 6’1″, 185 lbs.
Any ideas?

Dave, what other symptoms are you having? I think I’m having something similar. What did the doctor say? Can you please update me, I’m curious, cause I can’t find any answers either. Does your feet look like their swelled up? Is it one or both? Mine is both, but they don’t look like it’s swelled. Hurts on ball of foot area, also burning sensation and weird sensitivity.

Ron, While my problems have yet to be diagnosed and I can not say what it is that I have you might want to get checked out for reflex sympathetic dystrophy. It is one of those things that should get checked out ASAP as early intervention is very important. Go to rsds.org to learn more. Staying active seems to be really important.
