Wacked -Up Elbow

(2 discussions)

Hello, I was fencing (sword fighting) four weeks ago. The person I was bouting with was angry over a point I made and hit my foil(blade) with such force that it over extended my elbow. It wasn’t to bad that day, but by the next morning I could not straighten my arm out and the pain is terrible. I can not afford to go to the doctor.(four children at home). Now I am almost forced to head toward the doctor as I can not straighten my arm out still, and the pain still drives me crazy. Is there someway to treat this myself? the outside of my actual elbow hurts to touch the joint, but the underside seems fine. I can not push with the hurt arm/elbow, but pulling is only a little strained.
I also have lost some of my grip strenght as well….Please help if you can offer any advise….Thanks,Angel

Try a contrast of heat and ice using the following: Heat (heating pad or hot towels) for 15 min., ice for 10 min., then repeat 2 to 3 times. Heat helps bring more blood/oxygen/nutrients to the elbow so it helps it heal. Gently push your elbow out straight as well as flexed back as far as you comfortably can. Some light (3 to 5 lbs.) bicep curls and wrist curls would also help. Try some fencing by yourself, going thru the moves, before you get back to fencing with someone else. The impact of the sword is what puts stress on the elbow and wrist.

Playing basketball I hyperextended my elbow as I got my arm in the way while someone drove passed it and collided with it (with a lot of force). Since then, every time I try to block a shot and extend my arm, it seems to hurt or reinjur. Now, I have laid off from basketball for about a month and a half, and am lifting weights, doing curls. It has gotten stronger, but I still feel as if it is unstable. What else can I do to help it heal fully? Thank you, Essah
