Which knee brace? HELP

(16 discussions)

I have arthritis in my knees, have had past surgeries for football injuries on both knees, most recently had athroscopic for torn meniscus on rt knee and now left knee is bothering. I’m overweight and 53. Which would be the best brace for golfing? I measure 22 3/4 on the mid patella up 6 in.

I was operated on in April for multiple fractures to the patella and it was fixed with wires and pins. I had understood that these should be removed within 9 months and have now just been informed that they will not be removed until early May. Is this a cause for concern?

I had the same surgery September 29th, 2016. It is not easy. I’m 28 and in very good health and it still has been rough. With that said, I am doing much better than expected and have over 100 degrees of my Range of motion back and am able to put almost all my weight on the leg in question. All this only four weeks after surgery. Stick with your physical therapy, push yourself as much as you can, take pain pills before your therapy so you can go a little further and wrap your knee with heat then immediately with ice to reduce swelling and throbbing pain. Also, if you are into herbal medicine – check out an enzyme therapy which includes Serrapeptase – this enzyme is know to dissolve scar tissue and reduces swelling. This will get back to normal before you know it – no worries. If there are any other questions I can answer for you please let me know. ThanksMark Louque

I broke my left kneecap about 5 weeks ago and did not have to have surgery. I have been wearing a stabilizer and can now bend my knee. I start therapy this week. Can anyone share similar experiences and/or advice? How long did therapy and recovery take?

I just broke my knee cap in half and broke one of the halfs into also only a week and 3 days ago. They did immediate surgery the very next day because of the severity of the break. Rods and wires were used to piece the peices back together in one piece. I slipped on a wet kitchen floor. I can’t begin therapy for a full 8 weeks minimum and then I can start therapy. I have a 9 inch incision and 32 outside staples. Has anyone here gone through this type of surgery and therapy?

I broke my kneecap on 5/9/07(as the doc said – it exploded) The toe of my shoe got caught in some broken sidewalk and I feel straight down on my knee. I too had surgery w/ pins and wires. Therapy started around 6 wks post op. I’m at about 3 1/2 months post op now – my ROM is about 115 degrees. I’m still experiencing weakness at time (feeling like my knee will just pop out while I’m walking). Therapist says I’m at about the end of my ROM. I’m not happy about that, but I’m still chugging along! Best of luck w/ your recovery!

I was hit by a car on December 16, 2016. It broke my kneecap, broke my femur in two places, my pelvis in 4 and my arm in 14 (all on the left side). I was supposed to start therapy in early January but I didn’t have insurance… I just got insurance. I start my therapy for my knee Monday. I won’t be able to walk for quite a while because of the pelvic fractures, but how bad is the therapy for the knee?

I broke my patella in several places (7 pieces on metal in there now)I was informed that it is usually around 5 months before I have the choice of removing the metal or put up with whatever it feels like. I still have a couple of months to go and although I am walking better and my movement is better, I still have a similar pain to toothache in my knee, which varies denpending on the weather. The physio is not too bad once you can actually turn the pedals on a static bike, although the first few attempts will draw some face pulling, and possibly the odd expletive. I was also informed that it could take up to two years before it would be back to normal, but that as we all know, is up to the individual and how hard we work ourselves.Get well soon fellow sufferers.

I also have a broken knee cap…Had surgery oct,13th 2006…. Doc never mentioned anything of removing the screws or the wires…How long does it take to heal and get back to walking normal. I have been goin to therapy 3 days per week. I was in so much pain after the surgery, now it has calmed down to just a throbbing pain.Is there anything I can do to help in the healing process. All comments will be greatly appreciated.

i’m 35 years old, fairly thin female. I broke my kneecap in two in the bathroom on 29 aug 09, had surgery to insert pins & wires next day. Doc demands splint must be kept around my leg 24/7 for two weeks post ops. after that I can take splint off only for gently exercises, but must have splint on when walking. 4 weeks after ops, doc allowed me to walk without the splint and do more bending exercises. i’m now into my 6th week post ops and I feel that I have not made much progress as I feel a bit of pain when I walk and my knee goes red and puffy when I do knee excercises.i’m stuck in another state away from home, and can’t really fly back until I can bend at least 90 degrees, now only 40 degrees!my knee is so tight when I try bending more and it hurts when I stretch it!it seems like people heal differently, some quicker than others. doc said I should recover 100% in up to 4 months! I think a very important part in the recovery process is your mind. try to keep positive and my christian faith helps me with this. I have my moments of discouragement and frustration but keep pressing on. like me, you too WILL recover!

I fell hard 3 days ago, my knees immediately swelled up and turned black at the impact sites; I fell on concrete. I can walk, but it’s painful, stiff with limited range of motion and massive point tenderness on the knee cap. No insurance so no trip to the doc. Can anyone tell me their immediate experience with their broken knee cap? I think this is my problem.
