Wrist

For the past year and a half, I have had pain in my wrist wrist.
I went to my physician about it and had x-rays and an MRI done, but the only diagnosis my doctor gave was that there is some inflamation.
He prescribed pain killers, which worked while I had them.
He also said I needed to rest my wrist, which is virtually impossible because of school (I am 19) and work.
The pain had gone away for awhile as I was not doing as much writing during the summer, but now I am back at college and am a music major.
My instrument is piano so I practice a few hours every day and my wrist has really been acting up with all the use.
I was just wondering if there are some strengthening exercises that might help, or if rest is the only thing to do.
If so, I will just have to deal with the pain, but I know it will just increase because it has done so before, so I would really like to stop it before it gets worse.
Thanks for your time!

You may be a good candidate for a night wrist splint. This allows your wrist to rest in a comfortable, neutral position at night, thus easing inflamation and pain. Ask you Dr. about one. Also, ice can be a natural anti-inflamatory, try ice for 10 to 15 minutes 1 to 2 times per day for about 2 weeks. Let me know if this helps.
