Xiphoid process

I have this pain and lump between my ribs at the base of the separation and I went to a surgeon and he told me it was xiphoid process. He said there was nothing I can do about it, however I am in so much pain, especially when I have to wear a bra, which is all the time! Is it true that I just have to deal with it,or do you think I should get a second opinion?

Ummmm, the xiphoid process is not a condition, it is an anatomical landmark. It’s a piece of cartilage at the end of the sternum. Although it’s usually ossified in an adult. Did your doctor take an x-ray? A history? Do an exam? If he didn’t, find another doctor. A competent doctor will 1. take a complete history. 2. do a complete examination. 3. probably (at least in this case) take x-rays. There has to be a reason you are in so much pain.
