Achilles rupture surgery questions

(2 discussions)

Hi all. I ruptured my achilles a couple days ago and I’m scheduled for surgery this Friday.
I’ve read quite a bit about what’s happened and what’s done during the surgery, but not much about the surgery.
I’ll admit it, I’m a whimp when it comes to doctors! I haven’t had any surgery before, still have my wisdom teeth.
Can anyone explain what happens from a general standpoint? What type of anesthesia is used? If it’s general, does this consist of a tube down the throat? Can it be done with local anesthesia?
Thanks for any calming support.
Eric

Great, glad it all went well!

Just make sure you do your rehab now. That’s the most important bit! And it’s all down to you, your physio can’t do it for you, but only tell you what you need to do.

    Keep us posted, good Luck,
    Sarah.
