achilles tendons

(2 discussions)

I play netball and have done for 24 years now. I have inflammed achilles tendons that have flared up since playing outdoor netball again on concrete. Apart from resting them what else can I do to my achilles to get the inflamation down. Also it seems that the more I walk them out the better they feel it’s just when I am not using them for a few hours it feels like they tighten up.

Have you been examined by an Orthopedist lately? If not, that should be your first step. He might be able to show you how to do some “heel cord” exercises to stretch your achilles tendons. He might also be able to give you some anti-inflammatory medication if this is needed for the short term. Of course, another option would be for you to get and evaluation and treatment from a Physical Therapist or Certified Athletic Trainer. The key for you, I would think, will be lots of daily stretches for both your calves, hamstrings, and achilles tendons. If you do an Internet search on these terms, you will find pictures of recommended stretches, and lots of other suggestions. Let us know how you make out, and good luck.

While jogging, a week from today, I hurt my ankle. My achilles are inflamed. Apart from trying not to walk on that ankle, what can I do get the inflamation down. It has become more painful over the last 2 days. What support should I get, if any?
