achillis tendon

(4 discussions)

I have a small knot on my left ackilles tendon.
It is sore in the morning and seems to be getting worse slowly. Could this be caused by my shoes.

Hi Terry,I’m not a physical therapist but I have had the same thing. It has been diagnosed as achilles tendonitis. The first thing the Dr. had me do was ice it twice a day for 20″ and take an anti-inflammatory medicine. It didn’t help. I’m now scheduled for a physical therapy appointment. I doubt your shoes caused it. I have worn only open back shoes for the past year and still have tendonitis. I am a home health nurse and my day is spend standing, walking or driving. The doctor told me the next step will probably be splinting and the physical therapist can decide what I need. He said if that didn’t work then I might need casting of the foot and ankle to immobilize the tendon and allow it to heal.If you haven’t already, get it evaluated by your doctor because it will probably get worse … I now have a lump the size of 1/2 a golf ball on my tendon and I am limping most of the time. Good Luck,Carol

Lately (about three months ago untill now) my achilles tendon has been burning and painful. I do stand on my feet for work. (most days 10 hours or more per day) I tried walking in the belief that it was lack of exercise- but that just makes it hurt worse. Now, my hip of the same leg, is burning and painful to walk when I first get up from a laying or sitting position. Any ideas?

Hello, I am a 24 year old male. I have been very physical active my entire life. 2 and 1/2 months ago I was under cut while playing basketball. The brunt of the blow was absorbed in my Achillis area. Ever since that day I have not been able to run full speed without discomfort, and I find that I am very senstitve to any fast twitch pressure in that area. I can still walk and move day to day with comfort, but I am concearned that I am risking serious injury, for I have tested the achillis seriously every 7-9 days since the injury and each time the results have not been possitive. I would like any sound advice. -Thank You
