ACL rehab.

(3 discussions)

Hi everybody, I’m new to the forum. Was just wondering if anyone could give me some advice. I had my ACL replaced back in June 2004 (7months ago) everything has gone really well until last week. I did some weighted squats 4 the first time since the op, and then went rugby training in the night. Ever since my patella tendon where they took the graft from has been really painful, is this normal or should I go get it looked at? Any help would be great, thanks.

What you are experiancing is actually fairly common after an ACLR with a patellar autograft. It’s called graft side morbidity, and it occurs in a high number of people. You may have to back off on your activities for a while until it goes away. Proper form is essential when squatting and never go past 90 degrees. Antiinflammatories may help, along with cross friction massage. If it continues, go an see your Orthopedic surgeon because anterior knee pain can also be a sign that they graft potentially failed.

If in doubt mate go see your doctor. I had ACL reconstruction 4 weeks ago. Getting about now without crutches. I play rugby also and was wondering if you had any tips for rehab from a rugby players point of view.
