after ribs adjusted, sternum pain is excruciating

I had three upper front ribs adjusted (they popped out after lifting something heavy).
These particular ribs pop out every few months, so having an adjustment from the Doc has never bothered me until now. After this adjustment I was in so much pain.
It knocked the wind out of me and I couldn’t catch my breath.
The pain was unbelieveable.
Two days later, I was in excruciating pain.
My ribs felt better, but my sternum felt like a big truck was sitting on me with a knife in the middle! Taking a deep breath, sneezing, laughing, coughing, lifting my arms would be extremely painful. I went back to my chiropractor and he had ultrasound/heat put on my sternum and told me to come back a few more times for that.
It’s feeling much better today…day 8, but I just wanted to know why I’ve been in so much pain and what exactly happened to my rib/sternum to cause this pain.
Thank you.

Just ask your DC. He/she has more experience with your body than we do. Also they have more information about your treatment plan.
