Amputate Toe?
My 84 year old grandmother has a severe bunion, and has been advised by her general surgeon (I think not a podiatrist) that the best solution is to amputate her second toe! Is this an accepted practice with really bad bunions? Seems very sketchy to me… Thanks.

I would have to say NO NO NO. First of all, an 84 year old needs to be evaluated for circulation before doing any foot surgery. Next, you need to take her to a podiatrist and ask questions and ask about alternatives. The only reason I can think of for amputating is for gangrene or cancer.
