ankle

45 years ago my husband sustained a compound complex fx of the tibia and a spike driven thru his ankle.
His has walked with managable pain since and has currently had increased pain in the ankle..We were wondering what is being done with ankle replacement and/or Rx for old injuries and who is the best ortho surgeon in the Chicago area to talk with.
Thank you

I have never heard of an ankle replacement. That would be a tough joint replacement as the ankle has many bones. They usually fuse ankles when folks have lots of pain from arthritis, for example. Sounds as if he has post traumatic arthritis. Maybe a steroid injection would help. I don’t know Chicago, but if you ask around you may find a good one. Good luck!
