Ankle pain
(3 discussions)
I am a 47 year old healthy, active female. For the last three months my left ankle has been feeling like it needs to pop and causing pain when I step down, especially when going down stairs. Even if it pops it doesn’t help. The sensation is happening much more often now so I fear whatever is wrong is getting worse.
I have an appointment with the doctor for next Tuesday but am wondering what might be causing this and what questions to ask when I see the doctor. Thanks for any assistance you can provide.

I would most likely need to examine you and watch you walk. X-rays first and MRI maybe. The causes of the pain can be varied from a stress fracture, to tendonitis to an osteochondral defect in the joint. You are taking the important first step by going to a doctor.

I recommend you have this area x-rayed and further evaluated. I can only guess and that will not really be helpful. Sorry.
