My daughter is 10 years old and her ankles pop.
When she walks, especially down stairs, you can really hear her ankles pop.

Joint cracking, commonly in the ankles and knees when walking up steps, is usually a benign condition that you do not need to worry about. While the exact cause is hard to detect, you are not doing damage to the joints when you hear them crack. If you have pain associated with the cracking joints, then you should be evaluated to make sure there is not an underlying problem. But the average snapping ankles, or creaking knees is not a problem.
I have the same problem in my left ankle. It pops when I move it in up, down, and outward (left). I “sprained” it 6 years ago and it still pops in and out to this day. it didn’t break but i’ve never had an MRI on it and I’m sure it’s a jungle in there.I’ve resprained it about 10 times since.
