Another ACL injury

(2 discussions)

I tore my ACL a month ago in a wakeboarding event and going in for surgery this Thursday. Just want to hear it from those people out there who had their ACL reconstructed before, how long did it take you to get back into shape?

I’ve heard/read people going back to their area of sports in (fastest) 3 months to a year. To those that recovered fast, what is your secret? To those that recovered slower, what do you think you should have done?

Seeking all your advises as I want to be able to go back to my sport as soon as possible and am willing to rehab/train dilligently for a speedy recovery.

i had acl repair in Jan. 2004. 36 years old, mother of five, very active. My surgeon declared me the poster gal for recovery. I worked with physical therapists for only a couple of weeks following surgery and have full range of motion, strength and use of knee. Screw backed out of the bone and had it removed in September and am now wondering if I pushed things too hard too fast. Do all of the stretches and excercises shown to you through therapists and question how fast you should be doing it all. I went right into weight training at six weeks and went hard and heavy. May should take things a little slower. best of luck to you
