Arch pain

(2 discussions)

My right arch has some pain in it when walking or running. It sort of feels like it is being stretched because of there is not enough arch support in my shoe. I’ve tried inserts but the pain doesn’t go away. My left arch doesn’t have this problem. I wet my feet and made an imprint on paper to see how high my arches are. They are medium high and appear to be the same. Any exercise suggestions or mechanical device recommendations are appreciated. Thanks.

Hi- I had a similar problem when I was running cross-country. I went through bone scans, xrays, physical therapy- nothing showed anything or helped at all. I ended up having to get custom orthotics- expensive- but worth it. I also had to be on crutches for a while to let my arch heel- 13 weeks to be exact but if they would have found the problem earlier it would have been shorter. Then i had to go to PT to strengthen my foot back. Try going to a sports medicine doc and suggest custom orthotics- they are worth it- I love mine. I hope you feel better soon!

You might want to consider consulting with either a podiatrist or an orthotist about possibly getting some custom orthotics.
