Bankart repair with capsular shift, arthroscopically

I have a question regarding this procedure. Does anyone know the reinjury (dislocation) rates of the shoulder after having this procedure done?

I am 20 years old play baseball. I have a torn ligament in my throwing shoulder after 2 dislocations (separated by 3 years). My orthpaedic surgeon reccomended this procedure, but couldn’t give me any information of the rate of recurrence.

Any information would be appreciated.

Thanks, paymon

    Paymon,

I had the same procedure 1 1/2 years ago, the reinjury rate is 5 to 7 percent. I was great for one year after my surgery unfortunately I fell hard on my outstretched arm and dislocated it again dislodging one of my three anchors, I’m getting second surgery in two weeks. If you continue to dislocate you could have serious damage and/or bone loss to your capsule which could require bone grafts and more serious procedures. That is my situation, I’ve dislocated about 17 times total and have major capsule damage. Bottom Line: Get the surgery, it’s not that bad, and has a good success rate!
