Bicep Tendon Rupture

(9 discussions)

I posted a couple messages earlier, but didn’t get much in the way of responses.
If anyone has any input and or experience with rupturing the bicep tendon from the elbow area, I’d sure like to hear about it.
I’m expecially interested in the rehab stories, as I’m already 3 months post operation from having it reattached.

I have a complete tear of the bicep tendon (1), told I need surgery and a cast for 3 months plus rehab. That seems too extreme, I am 46 year old, isn’t there oher options?

SteveI just tore my distal bicep tendon last night 6/2. Today, I just made an appt. with an orthopedic doc and am trying to figure out just where I stand as to just how much damage I did. I was making great strenght progress inspite of my age. I guess I’ll have to switch to aerobic stuff. I am curious about how you injured yourself because I am concerned about returning to back to serious weight-lifting. Of course, I should concentrate on just doing “normal” every day things.

Hi Joe My bicep tendon completely separated at the elbow on Aug. 7. I saw an orthopedic surgeon yesterday and have surgery scheduled for the 12th. He is saying two months in a brace and then we begin the rehab. Makes a serious dent in my golf and motorcycle plans for the rest of the year! I am very interested to hear how your rehab went and what lasting impairments you may have. Let me know if you get this message. Thanks, Marvin Wray

I had a complete tear of my left distal bicep tendon 9/7/04 (and I’m left handed to boot). Had surgery to reattach on 10/1 and still in a splint as of 10/25. Hope to start rehab soon (I see the doctor next week). He tells me 4-6 months for complete recovery. Sounds like a long winter.

I saw your entry in orthoped.org, Ask the Physical Therapist website from some time ago. Your situation appeared to be somewhat similar to what I am dealing with right now. I am contemplating surgery on my right shoulder to alleviate bicep tendon problems that I have had continuously for the last couple of years. I will have my bicep tendon clipped and reattached using a bio screw into the top of my upper arm bone. I realize this is not your exact surgery but from your entry it appears to be a similar situation. If you have time to respond to me I would be interested to know if you had the bicep/ shoulder surgery and how it worked out for you. Did it alleviate your problems and are you better off now/ are you glad you had the surgery? Thanks for your consideration. My email address is:[email protected].

My daughter, age 28, recently received a tendon separation in her right arm. She has no use of the arm. MRI did not show much. She is in a lot of pain. Doctor wants to try therapy, but I don’t know how with all the pain she is in. he is also thinking about surgery. How do they repair something like this. She is a nurse and needs her arm to work. Thank you.

I tore my bicep tendon at the elbow. I am 46 and very active. Am debating weather or not to have surgery to repair it. Would like to hear from people who have had it repaired and who have torn it and have not had it repaired. My surgery is scheduled in 12 days. Would like some imput before then if possible.
