Bone Bruise-knee

My daughter was just diagnosed with a bone bruise. Initially it was thought to be a torn medial meniscus because her knee locked and couldn’t extend or flex fully. MRI results showed “impaction fracture” and bone bruise. Is this one in the same? What exactly is this and what is the recovery time? How long to avoid sports? Thanks.
