Bone Question

Hello! I am studying to get into chiropractic school and fame across a question that is driving me crazy. If I am looking at 2 femurs, how do I tell which one is the left and which one is the right? Thank you for your help. Kelly

To know, you first need to know the landmarks of anterior and posterior on the femur itself. The lia aspera is on the back of the shaft (a long raised ridge that runs down the back of the shaft). If the femur is facing you and there is no lia aspera then you see the anterior of the femur and the head of the hip will point to the opposite side. So if the hip ball is pointing to the right then that is the left hip and vice versa.
