bone sticking out of the top of my foot.

there is an abnormal bone sticking up where I’ve twice broken the foot bone in the same area.
I can’t understand why this is the way it is.
What are the reasons that a bone would be like this.
Is it simply because it healed wrong?
Or something else altogether.
Thank you, Manuel Ramirez

Sever’s disease (which sounds ominous) or Calcaneal apophysitis is an inflammation of the growth plate in the heel or calcaneus. It is self limiting as when the growth plate in the heel finally closes down usually around 14 the problem resolves. While it is not entirely impossible for a 10 year old to have heels spurs, in 25 years I have yet to see this. I would lean more toward the Calcaneal Apophysitis. The lump below her knee is probably Osgood-Schlatter’s disease, one of many similar growth plate problems. There are knee splints available for this. The #1 thing I use for Calcaneal Apophysitis is a Silicon heel cup. My preference is one made by Silipos, although many heel lifts and cushions will work. Depending on the severity, I will have the patient rest, use ice, take an anti-inflammatory by mouth or use topically. As far as the 1 cm limb length difference, I do not know how significant it is. We are none of us completely equal on each side. I ahve seen patients with 1-2 inch limb length differences with no other problems and others with a 1/2″ difference have a problem (sorry, I forgot you Aussies use metric measurements read 2.5-5 cm and 1.75 cm)for further information do a search on Google for Sever’s disease and anything else you might be concerned about.Hope this helps
