bone stimulator vs. surgery
(2 discussions)
I was in a bad auto accident in November. I crushed my leg and broke 7 bones in my foot. I was still in severe pain on the ball of my foot.
After several sets of xrays my Dr. dismissed me and said I had RSD. After a second Drs. oppinion and a bone scan I found out I had a stress fracture in the 2nd metarsal. I have been wearing a post op shoe for 10 weeks and since they found the fracture I have been using a bone stimular ultrasound machine(aprox. 5 weeks) Two weeks ago after xrays to ck on the 2nd metarsal they found a stress fracture in the 3rd metarsal. I am continuing with the bone stimulator and the post op shoe. Do you think surgery is an option? Thanks Pat

I do not know what surgery would need to be done on a stress fracture, unless it is very dislocated.A bone stimulator is a good conservative idea.

I have a 5th metatarsal break. It is stable as of right now, but it is taken a long, long period to heal. Wouldn’t it be more logic to repair it surgically than to use a bone stimulator?
