Broken Collar Bone

(3 discussions)

Hi! my name is Alekey, I am 16 years old… I had an incident about 1 1/2 years ago when I broke my collar bone (clavical). We did everything we were supposed to. We went to the doctor, got x-rays, and had a sling/figure 8 on. Doctor told me that I will be back to normal around 3 months of healing… I was…but I am not happy with the results I have today. I thought the bone will heal back like it used to be, yet this collar bone cuses me discomfort and looks horrable, at least how I view it. What can I do to have the bone heal back to its original state? I mean the thing I don’t get is that…doctors heal brains and other incredable features of the human body but can’t fix a collar bone to its original stat…can they re-brake my collar bone after 1 1/2 years of healing? becuase I feel like that would make it worse becuase it feels to me like the bone already has been already connected and is fatter in the center where the break was… So if they were to break it…and make it heal back…the bone will be fatter and will just be worse in my opinion…well I don’t know is there ANYTHING I can do? I hate this… I feel so not me with this break.

The doctors should have evaluated the clavicle before they stabilized it. Usually, the will realign the break so that it will heal properly. However, in your situation, they may have done differently for medical reasons. You should consult with an orthopedic surgeon/specialist to determine your options.

Oh Wise One! I broke my left clavical outer third on the 30th April 2016. The bone is pertruding quite prominantly, with a step and feels as though the inner part which is above the outer part is jabbing into my neck painfully. There is 1.5 inch overlap that has allowed the shoulder to collapse forward enough to notice. I am a professional climber and am very concerned that this will (or not properly) heal in this position. I am keen for some expert advice from someone that deals with such traumers frequently as the Dr. I have seen has said that surgery is not necessary. I’m scared! Help
