Broken Femur

(3 discussions)

My daughter broke her left femur above the knee on July 4, 2014. Rather than put a rod down her femure, the doctor put in two pins. One from her knee area going up into the break and one from her thigh area going down into the break.
This break happened in Northern Maine on vacation, we live in GA, the doctor in GA says he normally does not see a femur pinned this way but feels that the pins probably will not hamper her movement.
My concern is that in bending her knee the pins will poke her muscle tissue and could cause problems. Does anyone have experience with a femur being pinned this way, and will therapy help or hurt her??

I broke my right femur on sept. 18,2014.I have a rod and 4 screws in my leg. I was very concerned and thought the srews would casue pain and discomfort. I just finally graduated from rehab and have gained full range of motion back in my knee. The screws have turned out not to be a problem so far. I was told that I might not gain full range of motion back with the screws, but this is not the case with me. I do not even have a limp left. Hang in there!
