Broken middle toe?

Hi – I am pretty sure that I broke my middle toe this morning.
It swelled a whole lot, and I have iced it, and the swelling is down.
It is purple and there is a lump (probably bone) in a place where there was not a lump before.
I am not sure what action to take.
How should I treat it?
Do I need to go to the doctor?
We have VERY poor insurance!
If I need to get treatment, I will, but if I can do it myself, I would rather do that without jeopardizing my longterm health.
