Burning and painfull feet.

(3 discussions)

Hi,
I was diagnosed as diabetic about a month ago and I have had problems with my feet leading up to and after diagnosis of diabetes. I have the following symptoms:-In the morning or after a long rest my right foot hurts for the first few minutes and it feels numb just under my big toe. At various time through the day I get a tingling sensation across the top of my right foot, this lasts up to about half an hour and is uncomfortable but not painful.
However in the evening and through the night I quite often find that both my feet feel like they are on fire even though they are not hot to the touch. It even wakes me up through the night and often is accompanied by the tingling across the top of my right foot.
The question is why is this happening, If it is due to my Diabeties has any nerve damage been done and when can I expect any relief.

Your doctor may have given you information about Diabetes to read. See if there is anything about Diabetic Neuropathy. That is possibly what you are describing. A podiatrist can give you more information about this. You can also do a search on the Internet.Sometimes even those who are well controlled diabetics can suffer from neuropathy. Good luck- diabetes can be difficult but not impossible to live with. Take extra good care of your feet- they’re the only pair you’ll get. Vivian A DPM
