i have what can only be descibed as a “burning muscle” sensation in my shhoulder, and sometimes down my upper arm….. It is really bad at night (sleeping), and often disappears completely very soon after I get up in the morning….. I force my self to sleep with my arms at my side or at least with my elbow lower that my shoulder every night….this condition exists in my right shoulder/arm only…..any ideas as to what the problem is?

My 91 yr. old mother who is in the mid-stages of Alzheimers has recently been complaining of a burning sensation in her neck. She was first in the hospital when she lodged this complaint (for another reason) and the hospital staff worked on her other problem and kept saying they would get back to her neck complaint … well what they finally wound up doing was giving her a tylenol … which apparently worked because she soon didn’t complain any more … but recently (she is home and I am her full time care giver) she has been complaining alot and so far I have done what the hospital staff did and that is give her tylenol … so do I need to go further with this and take her to the hospital or continue with the tylenol?
    Thank You

I have had this pain in my right side where my lungs are this occured since I had my lung biopsy and if I am up for just a little bit I start to have a burning sensation whre the pain is and the burning gets worse the longer I stand. It sometimes bring tears to my eyes. I just can’t stand the pain and the burning sensation I take motrin it helps a little with the pain but not hte burning sesnation. Any helpful advice. My dr. says its the muscle. But I never had this problem before I had the lung biopsy done.

I was Googling myself and couldn’t resist clicking on my name accompainied by the words “burning sensation.” I myself have suffered from excruciating and sometimes debilitating pain in my left shoulder and lower back. Even though this is in response to a question originally posed over two years ago I offer this up on the chance that it might help somebody. The conditions described by my name-sake are typical of what has been termed by Dr. John Sarno as Tension Myositis Syndrome or TMS. It is the cause of most back pain and perhaps even myofibrositis, a much worse form of the condition. I highly recommend for annyone who suffers from back pain that they read his books: Healing Back Pain and The Mindbody Prescription. I have often recommended them to people and most refuse to accept his ideas. I for one swear by them. His description of the condition is right on. These books cured me and I will be forever grateful. So buy them and read them. Even if you have doubts, read them anyway. Accepting the diagnosis is the first step to freeing yourself from the pain.
