Muscle pull???

I decided to start lifting weights again two days ago, and I was curling a med/heavy dumbell with both arms. My goal was to get 25 reps with each arm. In my left arm, after I got to 21, it was very hard to lift the weights and I had to switch arms. In my right arm, I did 24 when I couldn’t lift anymore. I went back to the left arm and finished the final four with some difficulty and mild pain. I then went back and did the last rep with my right arm with some mild pain. The next day, my arms were VERY sore, and I couldn’t even straighten them out. I had to walk around with my arms hanging out like a dog begging. I figured that a days rest would help, but the next day, it was worse. I’m worried that this is worse than a simple muscle pull. I’d really appreciate it if anyone can give me some advice on how to ease the pain.

Tear that results in L knee weakness on the tip toe

During a performance of the French Cancan, I was hopping repeatedly on my L leg, when I felt a pop behind my L knee and my leg and knee gave way. I could no longer stand. I eventually stood up and when I tried to go on the ball of my left foot with a straight leg, the left knee gave way one more time. No swelling, minor discomfort and minor pain in the knee area. Alot of abuse to this leg as R knee had previous ACL/Miniscus surgery.

Hip pain (tronchanteric bursa)

I have had problems with tightness in ITB both sides in past. Now I have pain in hip which has steadily got worse. Having stopped running for 2 weeks and had massages and physio on ITB the pain in hip remains. Has anyone any experience of how long a hip bursa takes to go? Can feel very slight pain even with walking and hip generally feels very stiff when I try and do my ITB stretches. Also, I have London Marathon place. Until these last couple of weeks I was running 30 miles per week with 13 as my long run so I have good base but am I foolish to be thinking I can get in enough training to do marathon?

ACL injuries

Hi!

I’ve mentioned this a few times on this site and have had some help but I need more people!

I’m doing my final year dissertation on the differences (if any) in ACL injuries between males and females and need people to help out! All you will have to do is complete a short questionnaire (max. 10 mins) and emailit back to me – simple!

I’m particularly interested in women, but don’t let that put u off if you’re a man!

Please contact me at with any questions

Many thanks
Jackie Steward

Lower Back Trauma

Just reporting back on my trip to the Physio on Friday; maybe the info can help someone else. The Physio was pretty sure my discomfort is caused by scar tissue, formed after my accident 2 years ago, and expressed astonishment that despite a battery of x-rays, trips to hospital and GP, no-one had recommended physio. She was pretty negative about the benefits of treatment so long after the event but suggested we try a number of sessions to see how my back reacts.

She spent about 15 minutes treating my back with sonar, electrical pulses, which she said would reach deep into my muscle; that was relaxing and did not hurt. She then spent about 20 minutes massaging the area by hand – that certainly was not relaxing! it was excruciating.

My bum throbbed on the way home! but immediately the hard lump in my butt felt different in shape, although it felt sore to the touch, as if it was bruised. Two days on, my rear still feels bruised, but I’m quite optimistic because the long-term pain in my back certainly feels different. It’s not ‘pulling’ or ‘drawing’. Whether this lasts or not I have yet to see.

The physio was quite negative, telling me it was quite unlikely the treatment would work. However I can’t help feeling something has happened within the muscle. Only time will tell I suppose.

On another note – while I hope this makes a difference, I will be furious if one trip to a physio has achieved an impact on pain which has totally dogged me and made life miserable for me for two years!

I’ll let you know.

Torn Flexer Tendon In Hand

I tore my flexer tendon (a little over a month ago) in my right pinky and have been to two different doctors. One says that I need surgery to repair and one said I didn’t. I still can’t straighten it out and it’s always kind of “hooked…” i guess you could say. It’s just kinda bent there and won’t move. I play basketball and tape it up but if anyone has any suggestions it’ll be appreciated!! THANKS!
