Broken bone

I have a cracked bone in my foot( the bone that runs along the second toe up) as well as several torn ligaments in the bottom of my foot.
I was misdiagnosed at first so I was just recently put into an aircast. Can you tell me in your opinion if being in an aircast is enough to heal a cracked bone and ligaments. My podiatrist is saying healing time is 3 weeks….as happy as that made me it does seem rather quick….your opinion would be greatly appreciated

Calcaneous Fracture (and several others)

(2 discussions)

Hello,
On 2/12 I was in a car accident and broke my right foot. The CT scan showed seven fractures, including in my heel. I did not need surgery–the orthopedic surgeon told me that the bones are in alignment.
I was in a splint for 2 weeks, cast for 4 weeks, and have now just gotten an orthopedic boot. The doctor said that I have to wear it for 2 weeks, except for bathing and sleeping. After 2 weeks, he said I can start wearing normal shoes.
It’s still really hard for me to walk. I use crutches for balance and to support some of my weight while walking with the boot. It’s been 2 days since I’ve gotten it. My foot is still REALLY swollen, especially around my ankle. The doctor said I have good range of motion. But my foot feels REALLY stiff. Are there any exercises that I should do to help?

screw displacement

I undergo bunionectomy with 2 screw fixation, after a week the x-ray showed that one of the screws “came back” on a lateral view – 3 mm, the plantar view is OK. Does it mean that I should remove this screw in a future? Could it remain asymptomatic?

LUMP ON METATARSAL

I too, have a lump on my metatarsal (third)bottom of foot – it feels like a cyst – yet could it be a neuroma being I had neuroma surgery about 6 years ago in both interspaces on each side of middle toe in that foot?
I noticed another reader (Dawn) had a lump on hers too. Thanks.

Austin Bunionectomy

(2 discussions)

I am 5 weeks post op and my foot is doing great.
I am wearing my own shoe and have no pain.
However, the doctor cut the tendon in my second toe to keep it from gravitating towards my big toe, but it seems like it is going that way anyway.
My left foot has a bunion also but the second toe goes towards my big toe also.
Is there anything that can be done to clip that tendon in my right foot again and/or do the left one so that toe straightens out?

neuroma?

In the past year I have underwent two surgeries one for a bunion, then 4 months later I had a neuroma removed.
It has been over three months and I am still experiencing much pain and discomfort.
My foot feels very sore and fatigued and I can not stand for long periods of time.
I also have ankle pain.
My leg getting thinner than the leg without surgery.
I have had PT and many injections.
I am trying to be patient but wondering if my foot will ever return to normal.
What should I expect at this point in time?
Has anyone had similar experience?

Habit of always tiptoeing barefoot and in high heels

(2 discussions)

Dear Sir, I am a mother in Thiruvananthapuram, India, and may I please to ask you a few questions about the walking habits of my daughter Deepti, now sixteen years old and in higher secondary school. For around three years, Deepti has taken to walking in high-heeled sandals. They don’t seem too bad (heels one inch higher than toes?), and they look comfortable and pretty enough, so I let her wear them to school everyday, under the condition that she take them off and go barefoot in the classroom and during breaks (please remember that we’re in India this is perfectly normal here).
The problem is that her feet seem to have taken the shape of high heels, and even when she’s walking barefoot, she almost always tiptoes on demi-pointe, that is, she walks on her toes and the balls of her feet. Her heels never touch the ground when walking, even barefoot. And even when she’s not walking, her feet are still tilted. When they’re flat on the floor, her toes are tilted upwards, and when she’s sitting on her chair, she tilts her feet on the legs of the chair.
I asked her about her tiptoe / demi-pointe walking habit, and she said that she doesn’t feel comfortable unless her heel is much higher than her toes, even when walking barefoot. She also said that the way she walks doesn’t make her feet sore because she’s used to it.
I don’t think this is good for her, because this isn’t the way feet are supposed to walk or the way feet are supposed to be shaped. I thought the high-heeled sandals would be all right as long as she took them off, but going barefoot now doesn’t help either, because she always tiptoes on bare feet without any support for her heels, so maybe that’s even worse for her now.And then, her foot muscles and calf muscles sometimes cramp, I think, because of all the pressure she applies to the balls and toes of her feet and the tension in her muscles when walking as she does.Anyway, I would like to know your imput on this matter. I really don’t think her walking pattern is healthy at all and I would like you to confirm my opinions. Do you think the cramps are associated with such a tiptoe walking style? Are there any long-term problems or disorders associated with the tiptoe walking style?
I think I am prepared to let her continue wearing the high-heeled sandals, because I don’t think walking in them is the problem, but rather, the way she tiptoes all the time on bare feet is the problem. So, I have begun to monitor her walking pattern closely and remind her to walk normally, with her heels touching the ground. What is your opinion here? So, could you please tell me if you agree that Deepti’s tiptoe walking style is bad for her feet? And do you think I’m doing to the right thing by letting her wear the high-heeled sandals to school but insisting that she take them off and walk normally barefoot (with her soles touching the ground) in the classroom, during breaks, and at home?
Thank you very much!Yours,Saaya

toes and heel

Mostly on my right foot, my toes go numb when I’m at work, I work 12 hour shifts on my feet, wearing steel toe shoes. After about 6 hours, my heel is in pain. This also happens sometimes when I am not at work, but not as often. I don’t think its my shoes(steeltoe), because on my days off I wear other types. What could be causing this, a Piched nerve maybe?
