Chipped ankle bone

My son recently heard a snap in his ankle while warming up for a soccer game.
We had it x-rayed and they said he chipped the bone where it attaches to the ligament.
To my shock, they said if he rests it, ices it and keeps it in the aircast, he could possibly play again in a week.
Is this possible?

If you went to a minor emergency center, then I could understand this. If you saw a podiatrist or orthopedist, I would assume they have never treated this type of problem. If he is young and the growth plates are still open, then both ankles should have been x-rayed for a comparision. I would find it difficult to believe a.) the diagnosis or b.) the return to playing in one week if a.) is correct.
