classic computer-user problem…

Hello, I am a computer user as a part of my job, where I use it only periodically for parts of the year (5-10 hrs. per week over 6-8 months), and then for long, extended periods (40+ hrs. per week for 3-4 consecutive months).
Recently, I have been experiencing wrist and forearm pain which has progressively gotten worse, to the point where this past weekend, I wasn’t able to open a jar of spaghetti sauce w/o help… I know it is carpal tunnel, because I had it once before, years ago as a result of a sport. This has been a common ‘injury’ (or job hazard) among my current colleagues, all of whom went to doctors and were told to purchase a wrist brace.
I want to skip the middleman.
What is the best type of wrist brace to purchase? Are there certain brands/types that are better than others? Thanks for any info you can provide. priya

The wrist brace is not the solution; the solution is to change the position of your keyboard so that it is more ergonomic for you to use. There are lots of devices out there which help to prevent Carpal Tunnel Syndrome (CTS). I would suggest that you see an Occupational Therapist (similar to a PT, but an expert in this area). They can not only give you immediate therapy, but can show you ways to prevent CTS in the future. You might want to do an Internet search for lots of additional information. Please let us know how you make out, and good luck!
