Compartment syndrome

Hi there, I am a nurse in the Emergency Department at the local hospital, Tonight while at work a patient came in with possible compartment syndrome. I was always taught that the leg needed to be elevated to heart level only to help prevent further complications. The ED doc said that the leg needed to be above the heart. Is this something new that this old nurse just didn’t know about? Am I an old dog that needs to learn a new trick? If that is the case what is the physiology behind raising the leg above the heart? Thanks for listening…..
