Compartment syndrome

(7 discussions)

I am due to undergo surgery on my right leg at the end of the month for this condition.

Does anybody know what the recovery period is ? Has anyone out there undergone this procedure ?

Cheers,

J

I underwent surgery last Friday (20/02) in Preston, UK. The swelling has gone down a far bit, but I still can’t walk without the aid of crutches. I was in and out of hospital on the same day, and had my bandages off on Monday. I will keep posting messages on this board with details of my rehab.

I too have been diagnosed with compartment syndrome and am unable to run and can walk only with severe pain. I am waiting for a date for my operation, which should be fairly soon. When I am through it I will post my experiences and also what advice I am given on recovery times and rehab.

Tom, how did you get on with your test?

Unfortunately my surgery has been postponed (Cheers Tony!). I will let you know all the info when I finally get it done (Christmas 2008).

I have suffered from this problem for 15mo.in both legs. Can’t run, sometimes can’t walk treadmill. I have been through therapy twice. I am scheduled for test 1/30/03. I would appreciate any info on syndrome, test, your surgery, recovery, success, etc. Good Luck with surgery!

Tim W – The only way to be sure is to get tested. If you do have the tests, try to get them to test each compartment, both before and after exercise. This would mean having a lot more needles jabbed into your leg, but it could save you from unnecessary surgery!

It’s now almost 11 months since my surgery. Even now I’m uncertain as to whether the surgery was a success, but it does seem to be the only option for compartment syndrome.

    Good luck!

Jingly, Hmm I am having pain right in the middle of the inside of my leg where the muscles meet. I wonder if its the same thing?? Sounds to me like this is the only answer?..I wonder who else has had this done with success?..Tim
