Compressed thoracic vertebrae following fall.

(5 discussions)

HiI had a serious fall down the stairs 4 months ago and was taken on a spinal board to A&E. X-rays taken at the time showed no bony injury, however, following this I have had pain from in my thoracic area from my back to my sternum. X-rays taken last week have shown a mild compression of the 8th thoracic vertebrae. From this I assume that this was a fracture that was missed in A&E, does a compressed vertabrae mean that it was a compression fracture?Secondly, what if any treatment is likely to improve the pain I am experiencing?
I assume that the vertebrae will not un-compress, therefore, what are the long term implications? Will physiotherepy help, what should I avoid? Thanks

Forgot to add that I also experience numbness and tingling in the smallest fingers of both hands and my arms go numb when I sleep on my back.

Hi, 9 months ago I had a bad fall from a hosre and suffered two compression fractures and a burst fracture the worst vertebra had collapsed completely. I had a back brace on for 4 months and I’m now having physio and accupuncture. The long term complications as far as I have been told is chronic back pain which I will always have. I am assuming that your fracture isnt as bad so I would only expect that you would also have back pain as a long term problem. and the compressed vertebrae will not un-compress I’m afraid.
Accupuncture is very good though for the pain. Hope things go well

I fell on my back and compressed the 11th thoracic vertebrae. The compression is slight. Will this heal over time??
