Consistent Calf Pain

(2 discussions)

After increasing my mileage and running frequency a bit too quickly, I felt a pop at the bottom of my shin and have had a muscle ache there for 2-3 weeks. I tried to run once but I felt it start to nag again. Do I need more time off? Could it be something more serious than a muscle strain? Any help will be appreciated.

Thanks for the input. The pain has come down to just a knot in the lower calf. I assume that it is a strain/pull. I’ve been running slowly and A LOT less frequently while stretching it more ofter, as well. It does seem to be feeling a bit better, though slowly, as you said.

sounds like a muscle strain, have you tried gentle calf stretches? and ice for 20 minutes 3 times a day? unfortunatly the calf is quite a slow to heal cos you need it to walk, stand up etc but more time off would proberbly cure it.
