I fell while running (56 years) have hot burning in my ribs, can’t sleep, very painful to turn over.
Is there any treatment for broken ribs, and how long does it take to heal. Any things to be careful of?

I fell on my side and heard a crack. Is there any need to go to the doctor or does a cracked rib heal itself?

Fractures typically take 6-8 weeks to heal. To be safe, I would see your primary care provider to make sure it is a minor injury, and to make sure it is healing properly.

I was searching on the web about fractured/cracked ribs. My 86 year old mom, not communicating well since several mini strokes, is staying with us for a couple of months. Last night, after some talking with her, she seems to have fallen, and hurt herself. This morning, I am realizing that she winces at touching of her left lower rib. Not sure if this is it, I was wanting to know if this is something I should seek medical attention for or if we should just treat ourselves, due to her age, and the anxiety of going to a dr. in a unfamiliar place. Not sure if you are the person I need to ask this of, but want to know, what you know. Thanks

I fell ice skating a week ago. It knocked the breath out of me. I fell on my right side. I went to the Doctor last Tuesday. Had xrays done the Dr. said I didn’t have any broken or cracked ribs. That I must have severly brusied myself. He gave me Naprosen to take 2 times daily. I was a lot better yesterday. (monday) but last night I had a touch of a virus and was up and down all night. I very sore today. And if I turn are breathe a certain way. a sharp pain goes through me. could this be just from getting up and down out of bed. That I aggrivated my side. I did not take the naprison last night cause of being nauseaded. But I did put a hot & cold pad on it this morning. I wam going to take the naprison this morning. Is there any other thing I can do that can reliever that pain and soreness. Thanks for your help. Again the pain is right below my right breast & side.

I went to a chiropractor for a spained ankle he broke 4 ribs. He asked me to file law suit.Can you tell me does this happen often? What can I do to help my case? He wants to pay me but the insurance company is fighting it.

I broke ribs 9 and 10 and they are still not healed after several months. X-rays show radiating calcfications perpendicular to the fractures, but no calcification reaching for the other end of the ribs. This happened in April. Now it’s nearly September and my posture is changing, my knees seem at a different angle and my bite had changed. I’m walking and sitting on different bones or so it seems. I also have a condition where L4 slides over L5 (15%). It could be more than that by now. I’m afaid I’m going to have a body collapse since my knees are painful and don’t look like before and my back has become round.

I was in a car accident 12/8 on 1/13 I think the same rib that was healing was re-broken as a result of activity. What should be done?

my dad had half his lung removed in november but had no chemo. He has now cracked 2 ribs from coughing. Doctor advised his ribs were soft but wants to do a bone scan because of the 2 types of cancer he has had.the cracked ribs are on the same side his lung was removed.any advise would be grateful.

I have 4 fracture ribs and one cracked rib. It has been about 3 weeks since my accident. I am still hurting and cannot sleep. I use to sleep on my side and back. Now all I can do is sleep on my back. I am getting about 3 hours of rest per night. Is there some type of excerics, a brace or wrap that I can put on my ribs. I need sleep now.

My wife had a fall in the bath last week and as well as bruising her elbows she has been in considerable pain in her lower back area and around the front of the abdomen.there has not been any bruising to the back at all only a small bruise to the right buttock.Our doctor said it was probably a cracked rib.prescribed painkillers and said it would settle itself down in a few weeks. It is now a week since she fell and she tells me it hasn’t subsided at all yet and the Paracetamol isn’t working except to let her sleep at night a bit better.Should she not have been told at least she should have an x-ray to determine the damage?

i fell down and had a very sharp pain on my left side on the rib side. I did an x-ray and adviced it was a broken rib and given some pain killers…4 days ago and the pain is unbearable. shud I continue on seeking medical advice since the prescription was for one week or I wait for some weeks.

I broke 3 ribs 5 years ago. I fell two weeks ago and re-cracked 1 and bruised 2 others according to the x-ray. The doctor just said were the elastic band and take pain medicine at night. I’m 56 and work every day (long drive, but just an office job). It is SO PAINFUL to turn at night or move. Is there anything else…hot or cold packs? Massage therapy?Please help… I don’t think I can survive 6 more weeks of this
