Cuboid fracture not recovering

(2 discussions)

About 8 months ago I fractured my cuboid playing basketball. My doctor didn’t prescribe a cast, he said a combo of weight bearing and a flat healed shoe would heal it. Eight months later I still feel a strange pain during the occasional step, almost like I’m hitting a nerve. Also, my foot pops a lot when I walk up the steps to my house and the foot still feels weak. Is it possible it didn’t heal properly?

I is possible that you did not heal right. There may also be other things going on, such as a problem with the Peroneus longus tendon that goes under the cuboid. I recommend you talk to your doctor about this. A MRI might be a good idea.

hiI was just recently diagnosed with an avulsion fracture of the cuboid bone too. Also from playing basketball. I inverted my ankle and thought I had just badly sprained it, but it turned out to be a fractured bone. Is this what you did? I went to the orthopedist and he said to treat it like a sprain- no cast or any other special treatment. After 2 weeks, I am still using crutches to get around. It is really painful, and not just when I put pressure on it or move it. Sometimes I will just get shooting pain that comes and goes. Did this happen to you too? If this is the same injury you had, I am curious to know if you had any of these problems and how your recovery went. Hope you figure out whats going on and get better soon. Thanks-Dan
