curved toenail

(2 discussions)

About a month ago the tip of my second toe on my right foot started to feel ‘funny’ — sort of a dull ache.
When I finally sat down to examine it I noticed that my toenail has started to curve over the end of my toe and, I’m not sure if it’s my imagination, but it seems that the tip of my toe has started to turn under. Just the tip where the nail is, nothing seems to be wrong with the joints of my toe and there are no corns or callouses.
I work in retail so I’m on my feet all day, but I always wear comfortable shoes and allow myself plenty of room in my shoes, so I don’t think it’s caused by too tight shoes. Do you have any idea what’s happening and how to correct it??
Thanks in advance for your advice.

I have seen this happen to many folks. Some causes are too short a shoe, injury, or even heredity.
Check the length of your shoe and see if you need to go up a size. Keep the nail as short as necessary. If the toe is becoming hammered, you might want to see a podiatrist for further evaluation.
