Decreased range of motion and stiiffness following ankle fracture

I suffered a fractured ankle about 10 years ago and i have experienced a decline in range of motion as well as increased ankle stiffness over the past decade. I was wondering if this is normal and if not, what is the cause of my problems? I would also like to know of any possible treatments. Thanx

In my experience as a trainer I would say it is normal and probably the result of scar tissue. If it’s still bothersome you would probably benefit from some physical therapy to remodel that scar tissue and increase its flexibility.

you might also still have ongoing inflammation and swelling due to irritation of the scar tissue from your daily activity. I would continue to Ice and stretch and perhaps even use contrast bathes (alternating hot and cold) to relieve some of the swelling.

    Hope that helps,
