Deep mid calf pain, not shin!
(5 discussions)
I have read much about compartment syndrome, and a few weeks ago, thought I had it. Soreness in front of calves, some numbness when running. So, I took 5 days off, and came back slowly with lots of rest days. The pain has now shifted!
I have the deepest pain right in the middle back of my calf. It seems to respond to ice, but does not like any weight applied (ie: walking or running). I have searched high and low for similar problems, but none seem to match.
A lttle more info: this is deep pain in the back mid calf, downhills are worse than uphills. Does not respond to ibuprofen or asprin. Ice helpful for short term only.
Help!

Hello,
I’m sorry I don’t have any suggestions for you, but if missery loves company I thought I’d share that I have the same ailment. I started training for a marathon (30+miles per week) 2 months ago and have been struggling with deep calf pain. It goes away and then comes back after long runs. Have you learned anything since your posting?

Good news for me, rest and orthotics seemed to help. My doctor kindly suggested 3-4 miles every other day for 3 weeks. It really seemed to help. I think I was on the verge of CS and then sprained my calf while favoring that leg. The rest worked. Also, lots of calf stretching.
Am training now for a 20miler in Feb. 10-12 mile runs have not been a problem lately. Best of luck to you all.

hi matey , you have me deep regret as i know your pain , i have c/s in both calfs , i used to run 14 miles aday(cut your training down)also ive rupured a muscle in my right calf which has helped to get rid of some pain . and ive had two cartledge ops , which i think are a by product of c/s , any way cut your training down , you want answers , look into yoga . good luck , and pain free fun to you and all people with c/s
