dislocated ankle, torn ligaments?

(4 discussions)

I recently put a lot of stress on my right ankle and dislocated it, tearing ligaments of both sides of ankle. it has been over three weeks now and I am still having lots of pain.
I am woundering what type of support is recomended, and if it would be worth my time to see a specialist rather than random family docter that keeps giving me run around on fix.
I do not have insurance and I have been told that surgury is most common fix? How long might this take to heal on its own should I stay away from riding bicycles and if so how long?
What are ways to pay for surgery if I have no insurance… And if I start new job with insurance I know there is ninty day waiting period but after that couldent I just say my ankle hurts and go in and get it fixed after insurance is working

I would wait for you insurance to kick in and get it fixed I have a similar problem with my ankles and I have had trouble with them for over 2 and a half years because my doctors have been giving me the run around. I got an MRI about a week a go and I am going to set a appt for surgery on Monday. I have waited way to long and have had way to many sprains since and it just keeps setting me back farther. I have found only one brace that is ment to prevent sprains and that works I would suggest wearing it until you can get the sugery. The name of them are Malleoloc Ankle Orthosis. They are about $50 a peice but I think they are worth it. Anyways hope that helps if you have any other ??? email me!

I would have it seen by an orthapedic docter right away, the same thing happend to me this weekend and if it’s not treated you will have to have surgery. Mine is in a cast for 4 weeks and if that doesnt help it to stay in place then surgery is nessacery

my advice is to wear the “lowest” sports shoes or sneakers u can.ones that when u r wearing them, the heel of ur foot is less than 1 cm from the ground.this way is becomes almost impossible for u to “turn” your ankle accidentally.

I had surgery last week to repair basically the same thing on my right ankle. Both of my ankles where unstable with detached legiments and tendons. I had a full non-weight bearing cast put on today and will require a walking boot type cast in June. I will be going through Physical Therapy for the next several months after removal of the hard cast. Once that is completely healed I am having the left ankle repaired same way. I would recommend getting it as soon as possible or affordable. I have insurance and all that but kept looking for reasons to not take care of it. It has been damaged for several years, this is the result of not taking care of it as soon as possable. Good luck.
