Dislocated Patella Surgery

(4 discussions)

I recently dislocated my patella for the second time and my Orthopedic wants to perform surgery to release the ligament on the outside part of the knee. However I want to get a second opinion. Are there any other surgeries out there and also which ones would you recommend?

Just do the surgery, I also have to have surgery,Only thing is I dislocated my knee for the third time. I asked my mom if I should go through with the surgery, She said just get it done and over with, so you don’t have to go through any more pain.

I’m getting that surgery done on Wednesday. I’ve dislocated my patella 4 times in 7 years and enough is enough. I also have a torn tendon that needs to be repaired and some cartilage damage. I’m all for the surgery and I’ve talked with others that have said they feel like they did before they ever hurt their knee.

….For the lat 20 years my right knee has dislocated too many times for me to count. All of which I had minor discomfort afterward and no swelling. However, 5 weeks ago it dislocated and I blacked out from the pain. My knee tripled in size and my ortho. specialist wants to repair a tear in the medial patellar ligament that holds the patella in place. He said he doesn’t do surgery to the lateral area which seems to make sense to me since the patella obviously has aquired a path to the outside of my leg. I plan to have the surgery in a few weeks. Good luck to you! Let me know how it goes )via email)

I have dislocated both of my knees twice in the last two years, I know its not that many times but its getting old. So I asked mydoctor about surgery and he said that releasing the outside ligament would probably be the best thing for me to do. I would like another opinion also, if someone could help.
