As someone who has dislocated their right shoulder twice, I sympathise with you!. If you are wearing a sling, get rid of it as soon as possible(4 days if poss), use the arm normally as much as you can, but refrain from your chosen sport for at least a month. I found a neoprene wrap useful to wear during the day. If you get pain when putting your arm behind your back, as in tucking in a shirt, you have damaged the INFRASPINATUS and should seek a therapist who will stretch it off for you. Don’t let a physio fob you off with just ultrasound! Good luck!

    Hi there,

When you dislocate your shoulder you stretch the tendons and ligaments. This can mean it is more likely to dislocate again! Every time it happens the problem gets worse.

You need to strengthen all whole area so it pulls everything in tight. Your shoulder is held together mostly by muscles, tendons and ligaments, so you can work these and tighten the area to some degree.

I am not sure exactly what exercises will help, but you will probably find them on this site, or someone else will answer this who knows more!!!

    Good luck,
    Sarah.
