Elbow tendonitis

(5 discussions)

I have suffered with tendonitis on the inside joint of my elbow from over working at the gym. My doctor said nothing could be done except rest and some anti-inflamatory medication. That was 2 months ago. I have had no change. Any suggestions?

I had tendonitis for 2 years. My physician kept telling me to rest it and apply ice. Finally it got so bad I could not pick up a gallon jug of milk without excruciating pain and I was forced to stop working out. The cure was to change physicians and he prescribed Physical Therapy. I had to fight he HMO, but it worked and within 8 weeks I was lifting again and I even built a deck, hammering thousands of nails! I can still feel some occasional discomfort, but 95% of the time or more, I am pain free. Thank god for P.T. and a new doctor! I know several other persons who have only were helped by physical therapy. I think some docs are just going along with the HMOs to save money, but that’s just my opinion. Get a new doc and some P.T.! It just might work.

My daughter is 15 years old and has been fully grown for the last couple of years. She is a softball pitcher at the tournament level. She complains of intermittent discomfort in her inside elbow area (chest side)on her pitching arm particularly if she extends her arm. It does not really bother her when she pitches. Took month of August off but still has intermittent (not constant) discomfort. Any ideas?

My son who is now 14 has been playing baseball since he was 5. Up to now with a promising career as a professional pitcher. About 2-3 month ago he started have pains in his elbow and tendonitis is suspected we have an MRI scheduled for confirmation. I have heard of the procedure to take a tendon from your leg and put into ones arm but have heard that it is not an option at such a young age for my son. what can we do to eliminate the tendonitis?????????

It’s good to see the input of so many concerning this condition. I too just recently have been suffering from tendonitis in my right elbow. It is hard to lift wrist upwards and even grip and lift my drink cup in my car… Much pain. It is also painful to extend arm straight out. The other day I noticed just how much it affects my grip when I couyld barely wring out a wash towel for the pain. It is disheartening to learn that this condition doesn’t just go away by itself in a few days, but rather takes months and even years to subdue. I would be interested in knowing what kind of Physical Therapy is helpful. I don’t have insurance and honestly cannot afford a doctor. I would like to do all that I can on my own. Thanks in advance.
