Enormous painful lump at the bottom of my spine.

(4 discussions)

It’s appeared, in the same place (right at the tail bone) several times over the last few years. Sometimes it gets so painful that I can’t stand up straight, or sit down properly. Right now it’s large and red, with a bruise all around it. About the size of a golf ball. And when I touch it it hurts, like a pinched nerve or pimple. But it’s somewhat squishy, with a hard lumpy center that is lopsided and oblong.Could this be something serious? Or just a knot? Are there lymph nodes there? Could it possibly be hodgkins disease?Thank you.

Could be a lot of things, do not wait around. Go see a doctor.

I had one years back. It was a polynidal (sp?) cyst. My doctor did out patient surgery to remove it. The wound has to be left open to drain and heal from the inside out. The dressing has to be changed regularly. I was out of work for several weeks, but it was worth it. If I think it is coming back, I am sure to sit at angles that doesn’t aggrevate it. It heals and goes away. Good luck!

About 2 months ago I was wrestling with a friend (drunken antics) and fell and knocked my back against the corner of my living room wooden door. It was bruises the next day, then became more sore over the next couple of weeks. The bruising and grazing went and I thought it was just a minor injury like any other bruise but now on this day I still have a lump directly beside my spine as if it’s attached! I’m a little concerned; is this something to worry about? Thank you for your time!
