Exercise and spondylolisthesis

I have recently been diagnosed with spondylolisthesis and I also have some inflamation in my SI joint.
I need to lose some weight but am concerned because a lot of cardio exercises are painful, even swimming.
Is is damaging to just work through the pain? Also, are there any specific weights or exercises that are really helpful or really harmful?

I have been diagnosed with Spondylolisthesis and find that the only real method that helps the pain is by rubbing in heat ointment before I sleep at night. The only problem with this is that I wake up with bruises down my spine..is there a better way to ease the pain? Anti inflammatories don’t seem to work.
